They can be made in isotropic and anisotropic qualities. They show excellent mechanical properties allowing us to achieve tight tolerances, making balance and assembly easier and creating complex geometries. Compression molding suitable anisotropic magnet powder had not been established facing the difficulty of contradiction of high density and magnet powder alignment. By applying both magnetic field and pressure at the moment when the resin is melted into liquid state by heating, both high density and a high degree of magnet powder alignment are attained. Furthermore, application of degassing and ultrasonic vibration were found to be effective. An anisotropic bonded magnet with the maximum energy of more than 20 MGOe, in other words, more than 80% of the theoretical value of maximum energy product, is obtained.

Samarium Cobalt holds its standard property in higher maximum temperatures than neodymium, although its maximum strengh is less. The cost of SmCo material is the most expensive, so SmCo is recommended only when its performance is a high temperature environment is a concern.
1.SmCo permanent magnet has high magnetic energy product and high coercive force. Its properties are better than Alnico, ferrite permanent magnet. Its max. energy product is up to 239kJ/m3(30MGOe), which is three times of that of AlNiCo8 permanent magnet, eight times of that of ferrite permanent magnet (Y40). So the permanent magnetic component made from SmCo material is small, light and stable in property. 2.The curie temp. of the SmCo permanent magnet is high and its temp. Coeff. is low. So it is suitable for use at 300, high temp.
3.SmCo permanent magnet is hear and bristle. Its rigidity strength, tensile strength and press strength are low. So it is not suitable for framework.
4.The main ingredient of SmCo permanent magnet is metal cobalt(CoY99.95%). So its price is high.

HOLDING FORCE
Magnetic force is optimal when magnet is in contact with a mild steel frame, flat, clean and rather thick. It is lower with allied steels and cast iron (less 30% for cast iron).
It is lower in the presence of an air gap (space between the part to magnetize and the polar face of the magnet).
It is decreasing by 0.08% every degree C (see besides curve). This loss is reversible.
INDUCTION ON SURFACE
The maximum value of induction in surface at 20°C is about 4000 Gauss for SmCo flat pot magnets and magnetic blocks.
This value is decreasing by 0.04% every degree C when temperature is increasing. It is a reversible loss.
MECHANICAL RESISTANCE
These ceramics are very fragile. They must be handled carefully.
RESISTANCE TO CHEMICALS
Samaryum Cobalt magnets must not be put in the proximity of hydrogen and chlorine.
Samaryum Cobalt magnets have a very high magnetic energy (BH Max).
There are 2 major families : SmCo5 and Sm2Co17. samarium cobalt ring magnets
The usual grade of our magnets is the most performing Sm2Co17 (max. 350°C working temperature).
